CAIRO – 28 February 2021: Egyptian Muslims are allowed to perform Tarawih prayers at mosques during the holy month of Ramadan, adhering to all precautionary measures against the coronavirus pandemic, announced Egypt’s Dar Al-Iftaa, a Sunni authority that responsible for issuing fatwas (Islamic decisions).

Tarawih prayer is an additional and non-obligatory prayer that is being performed by Muslims at night after breaking their fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

In Ramadan, Muslims worldwide abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to sunset.

In mid-March 2020, Egypt banned prayers at mosques and churches. But in August, mass prayers resumed.
