Egyptian president tours new capital to determine progress rates in construction projects

CAIRO – 8 February 2021: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi made a tour in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) Monday in order to determine the executive status of a number of neighborhoods and establishments.

The president first headed to Egypt Islamic Cultural Center, which consists of one of the world's largest mosques as it has a capacity of 107,000 worshippers and the length of its minarets is 140 meters. The center has a number of halls for various ceremonies, and chambers for teaching Koran to men, women, and children. The establishment has a parking lot and a seven-storey parking whose capacity is 3,000 cars.

Afterwards, President Sisi checked on the House of Representatives' building, which is the largest in the Middle East for it can contain 1,000 members, and spans over threefold the surface area of the current building lying in downtown Cairo.

 

The new building consists of a main hall, worshipping areas, medical center, police department, firefighting unit, civil registry, meeting rooms, press center, information center, and training center. That is in addition to landscape. It is noted that there is a large dome above the main hall that is considered one of the biggest in the world.

 

Later, the president visited the Governmental Neighborhood encompassing the headquarters of the ministries, the Cabinet, and many governmental agencies to see the progress of construction works and finishing.

President Sisi concluded his visit by dropping in "People's Square" having the world's tallest flagpole, and the memorial of Egypt's martyrs having the ancient Egyptian style.

During the tour, the president was getting briefed by officials about the progress rates. On his side, the chief of state urged them to meet the deadlines and standards given that the New Capital represents the new Egyptian state and its modern reality.
