On International Day of Human Fraternity, Egypt’s Sisi calls for upholding values of tolerance, peaceful coexistence

CAIRO – 4 February 2021:Celebrating the International Day of Human Fraternity on Thursday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called upon the world to spread the culture of peace and to uphold the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
 
 
“The world today is celebrating an important human value that we need more than ever before. It is the value of human fraternity... This momentous occasion reminds all of us of the importance of dialogue to understand and accept the other and the importance of strengthening cooperation to reject fanaticism, confront hate speech, and spread the values of tolerance, justice and equality in order to achieve peace and stability,” he tweeted on Thursday.
 
 
 
“Egypt is the cradle of human civilization. On its land, God spoke to Moses. Jesus the Christ and his mother, the Virgin Mary, moved to it. Islam entered it [Egypt] since its beginning,” he said, noting that Egypt is always working on disseminating the values of fraternity among the society.
 
President Sisi continued that in this context, the Egyptian religious institutions are exerting great efforts to enhance the interreligious dialogue among the followers of all divine religions and promoting the awareness of common human values.
 
 
The theme of 2021 celebration of that day, comes under the title of “A pathway to the Future,” by the participation of the UN Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC, Permanent Missions of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates to the UN, and the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, according to the UN official website.
 
 
On February 4, 2019, Egyptian Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayyeb and Pope Francis signed a Human Fraternity Document in Abu Dhabi.
