Egypt’s FM Shoukry discuss bilateral ties, regional issues with Portuguese counterpart

CAIRO – 2 February 2021: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed with his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva several issues of mutual concern, Tuesday.

During a phone call, Shoukry and Santos Silva discussed means to strengthen bilateral ties and regional and international issues of common interest.

Shoukri also congratulated Silva on the chairmanship of Portugal for the European Union as of January 2021, voicing Cairo’s keenness to continue coordination with Lisbon to promote ties with the EU and enhance European-African cooperation, Spokesman for the Foreign Minister Ahmed Hafez said.

Shoukri praised strong and special ties between Egypt and Portugal, stressing that Cairo aspires to cement such cooperation in all fields, increase trade exchange, promote tourism, intensify cultural cooperation and encourage Portuguese companies to invest in Egypt.

The ministers also discussed the latest developments in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, peace process and the Libyan crisis, among others, Hafez added
