Congolese President promises to work on solving GERD issue while chairing AU

CAIRO - 2 February 2021: President of Democratic Republic of Congo Félix Tshisekedi said that he will work hard during his tenure chairing the African Union to solve the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) ongoing issue.

 

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Tuesday the President of Democratic Republic of Congo Félix Tshisekedi in the latter’s first visit to Egypt.

 

President Sisi welcomed his Congolese counterpart, and stressed historic ties between both countries.

 

Sisi further ensured that the Nile River is a source of cooperation and development between both countries, as he discussed the latest developments in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue as part of the efforts to reach a binding legal agreement.  

 

For his part, Congolese President Tshisekedi said that he will make use of his visit to Egypt to make a tour, and visit the New Administrative Capital, adding “I would like to establish a similar capital in Kenshasa.”
