CAIRO – 31 January 2021: The Dental Syndicate has vowed to punish a member who is detained pending charges of harassing male patients once he is convicted.

In a Saturday statement, the syndicate slammed false information on social media on the effect of local dental anesthesia, emphasizing that it does not impact a patient’s awareness of perception and that only general anesthesia makes one lose consciousness and that only happens inside an operating room at the hands of a specialized anesthesiologist and a crew of doctors and nurses.

The syndicate requested that the media be “accurate” in wording the news, especially that this matter is “highly sensitive and jeopardizes the reputation of an entire profession.”

Male dentist Bassem N. was arrested at his clinic on Jan. 25 over accusations of sexually harassing five men. At least two celebrities are among the victims.

Actors Tameem Youness and Abbas Aboul Hassan spoke “horror” when they experienced the harassment, and that any courage or strength would not prevent the feelings of “fear and humiliation.” They both said the dentist grasped their private parts.

The dentist’s lawyer, Kamal Younis, told MBC Misr channel that his client is one of the most famous dentists in the country and that the accusations lack evidence.

Bassem N. was shown technical evidence during investigations, and other data on his phone endorse the evidence, according to the prosecution.

The defendant then told investigations he is suffering from a “disturbance in sexual orientation that did not affect his perception and awareness but pushed him to do wrong,” according to a prosecution statement.
