Huge fire destroys 15 shops in Tawfiqia market for car accessories downtown

CAIRO – 30 January 2021: A huge fire destroyed 15 shops in Tawfiqia market, one of the famous markets for car accessories, downtown Cairo on Friday, caused losses estimated at LE 20 million (more than $ 1,2 million).

 

Few hours after civil protection forces put out the fire, the perpetrator was arrested and he confessed his crime. 

 

He said in the investigations that he committed his crime because of a financial dispute between him and his cousins over an under-construction store.

 

He disguised as a tuk-tuk driver and got a quantity of gasoline from another tuk-tuk driver and set fire to his cousin’s shop but the fire swept through 13 other shops and kiosks.
