CAIRO – 27 January 2021: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said Egypt is accelerating towards a renaissance in the transport sector, as he inspected drilling works at Kitkat metro station on Wednesday with a number of ministers and ambassadors.

The stations from Ataba to Kitkat of four kilometers will be inaugurated in December 2021, accompanying Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir said. The French ambassador, the ambassador of the European Union and the governor of Giza also attended the arrival of the tunnel-boring machine.

Madbouly referred to mega transport projects being implemented today, including Metro Line 3 connecting Greater Cairo in a massive network of clean transport, the express electric train and the monorail, all contributing to an integrated network of transport and infrastructure.

For his part, Wazir said the drilling work between Zamalek and Kitkat along 929 meters underground is completed. Phase three of Metro Line 3 amounts to 17.7 kilometers and includes 15 stations. Work in the line has reached 49 percent today.

The second part of Phase 3 will be from Kitkat to Rod el-Farag axis at 6.6 kilometers, set for completion in June 2022. The third part will be from Kitkat to Cairo University at 7.1 kilometers to be inaugurated in April 2023.

The third phase costsL.E. 40.7 billion, while the entire Line 3 costs L.E. 97 billion. Kitkat station’s area is 3,800 square meters at a depth of 23 meters underground and has 3 levels.

With the completion of phase 3, the metro will have been connected Cairo to 6 October City and the Administrative Capital, as well as new cities such as Shorouk, Obour and Mostakbal. A monorail in the capital from Nasr City and another in October will make it the transport system even more comprehensive.
