Unstable weather hits Egypt, heavy rains in Alexandria

CAIRO- 14 January 2021: A wave of weather fluctuations has hit Egypt, especially over Delta and the Mediterranean cities, for four days, announced the Egyptian Meteorological Authority in a statement on Wednesday.
 
Heavy clouds gathered over the Mediterranean cities which witnessed very cold weather with heavy rains.
 
Heavy rains hit Alexandria and different parts of the Western North Coast on Thursday. The rains accumulated in the streets and squares and disrupted traffic movement.
 
Alexandria Governor Mohamed el Sherif raised the state of readiness and emergency in the governorate to handle any unstable weather conditions.
 
In statements on Thursday, Sherif gave directives to the sanitation company and heads of neighborhoods to follow up the state in different streets and track any emergency state.
 
Also, Alexandria Port Authority closed on Thursday the harbors of Alexandria and Dekheila due to bad weather conditions, high wind velocity, and high waves.
 
Head of Alexandria Port Authority Tarek Hisham said the ports were closed to avoid collision of ships. 
 
Cairo, Delta, and the coastal governorates have seen active winds with sand and dust, the statement added, noting that moderate weather prevails on the northeastern coast; meanwhile, warm weather would hold out in South Sinai.
 
Governors of Alexandria, Beheira (Delta), New Valley, and Luxor (Upper Egypt) announced the state of emergency in anticipation of any repercussions of the unstable weather.
