Egypt’s FM Shoukry participates in quartet meeting with Jordanian, French and German counterparts

CAIRO – 11 January 2020:  Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated, Monday in quadripartite meeting with his Jordanian, French and German counterparts to stimulate peace efforts in the region, and especially the Palestinian issue.

According to the Foreign Ministry’s spokes person Ahmed Hafez the meeting aims to stimulate peace efforts in the region and resolve the current stalemate in the Palestinian issue by urging the Palestinian and Israeli sides to negotiate and reach a just and comprehensive political settlement based on the two-state solution.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held talks, with visiting Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Sunday.

The two top diplomats' talks tackled means of boosting relations as well as the developments in regional and international issues, Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.

During the meeting, Shoukry briefed his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi on the outcome of recent contacts made by Egypt with all parties concerned with the Palestinian cause.

Shoukry received Safadi in the presence of Jordan's new ambassador to Egypt Amgad Al Aadialah, who presented his credentials to the foreign minister.

Both ministers underlined the deeply-rooted, strong relations between Egypt and Jordan and highlighted continuous coordination and consultations under the directives of both countries' political leaderships to establish security and stability in the region, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said.

The ministers also focused on means to support the Palestinian cause and they have the same views on regional and international developments, particularly in Syria, Libya and Yemen.

They emphasized the need to put an end to any foreign interference in the Arab countries' affairs and reach peaceful solutions to the crises of these countries in a way that preserve the Arab national security and land integrity, Hafez added

The quartet ministerial meeting in Cairo comes within the framework of the Munich Group, which includes the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Germany, France and the European Union.
