CAIRO – 1 January 2021: Cairo International Airport is operating throughout Friday 61 flights to Saudi Arabia, carrying 3,912 passengers of different nationalities, not including any Saudi national, a source at the airport said.

This comes few days after the Egyptian flag carrier, EgyptAir, announced resuming flights returning from the Kingdom, based on the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation’s directives.

Saudi Arabia, decided, last week to suspend flights to and from the Kingdom in fear of the spread of a new COVID-19 strain.

On December 21, flights to and from Saudi Arabia have been suspended for a week, according to an EgyptAir tweet.

“Per the instructions issued by the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation, all arriving and departing international flights [from Saudia Arabia] have been suspended as of Monday Dec. 21, 2020,” the tweet said.

On Monday, EgyptAir announced operating a number of flights from Saudi Arabia to Cairo as of Tuesday, December 29, in accordance with the new travel instructions announced by the Kingdom’s authorities.

Since mid-August, non-Egyptians arriving at Cairo International Airport have been required to bring the result of their PCR test to be allowed in the country.

International flights from and to Egypt were suspended in March but resumed in July, 2020. Throughout that duration, tens of thousands of Egyptians were repatriated by EgyptAir and affiliate airlines.
