CAIRO – 21 December 2020: Egypt condemned the rocket attack that targeted the Green Zone in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Sunday, said Egyptian Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Hafez in a statement on Monday.

He “Egypt's denunciation of all terrorist acts that may destabilize Iraq, and target the premises of diplomatic missions and civilian facilities, calling on all parties to uphold Iraqi national interests over any other considerations, in order for the relentless efforts exerted by Iraq in protection of its security and stability to succeed,” the statement read.

Egypt stands with brotherly Iraq in the measures it takes to eradicate terrorism and its supporters, and to preserve its national security, he added.

According to a statement from the Iraqi Army, eight rockets hit the Green Zone, injuring an Iraqi soldier when a rocket targeted an Iraqi security checkpoint.
