Egypt, UAE discuss civil war in 3 Arab states, Palestinian Cause, security in Red Sea

CAIRO – 16 December 2020: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed in Cairo on Wednesday developments on the civil wars in Syria, Libya, and Yemen as well as the Palestinian Cause and security in the Red Sea.

There was congruence among President Sisi and Sheikh Al Nahyan to continue deploying joint efforts to face threats embodied in foreign intervention in the internal affairs of fellow Arab countries, and attempts to destabilize the region.

President Sisi asserted Egypt's fixed stance on the security of the Arab Gulf as it is intertwined with Egypt's national security refuting any practices that would undermine the Gulf's stability.

On the bilateral level, the talks focused on joint investments and economic cooperation given that both countries have promising opportunities on that front. In the same context, Sheikh Al Nahyan congratulated the president on the leaps Egypt has achieved in various economic sectors giving rise to an overall outstanding economic performance.

Regarding the energy sector in particular, President Sisi welcomed the United Arab Emirates to join the East Mediterranean Gas Organization as observer, the presidency spokesperson stated.

 

Currently, the organization has seven founding states that are Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Israel, and Palestine.

 

President Sisi stated that the UAE will be an added value to the organization helping it achieve strategic interests and reinforcing cooperation among its members. 

 

At the end of the meeting, both leaders exchanged information on combating the outbreak of COVID-19. Last week, the UAE sent Egypt a shipment of a Chinese anti-COVID-19 vaccine.

 

President Sisi received Sheikh Al Nahyan and the accompanying delegation in Al Itihadeyah presidential palace on Wednesday.
