CAIRO -8 December 2020: Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi stressed the importance of ending the Libyan crisis by supporting political efforts to reach an agreement that preserves the integrity of the Libyan territories; otherwise, Libya would fall into the abyss of an aggravating crisis that will cause dangerous repercussions.

The Jordanian foreign minister stressed, during a joint press conference with his Greek and Cypriot counterparts, that Egypt's security is part of Jordan's security. Therefore, Jordan hopes Libya will not be an arena for more conflicts that threaten the security of neighboring countries.

Safadi called for an end to the tension in the eastern Mediterranean region by respecting the interests of everyone through committing mechanisms that ensure real stability through the implementation of the international law.

The meeting, which was held as part of the "Trilateral Cooperation Mechanism" that was launched in 2016, is the fourth of its kind, and it is aimed at enhancing trilateral cooperation between the three countries and their cooperation on regional issues to uphold peace and stability and achieve growth, Petra news agency reported.

The meeting also discussed the actions that each country has taken to implement the decisions of the two summits that the leaders of the three countries held in Nicosia, Cyprus and Amman. The summits took place in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Another summit is set to take place in Greece in 2021.

Egypt is adopting a strategy of opening up to all Libyan parties supporting a political solution, as part of its support for efforts to defuse the crisis in the country.

Egypt earlier announced an initiative, dubbed the Cairo Declaration, which posits a Libyan-Libyan resolution as a basis for resolving the country’s conflict, drawing on earlier international efforts, including the Berlin conference.

On September 22, Egyptian President Sisi addressed several ongoing topics during the speech he gave at the United Nations’ 75th General Assembly which was held virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

President Sisi said that his country is committed to a political solution for the current crisis in Libya based on the Skhirat agreement, the Berlin conference and the Cairo Declaration, which set a schedule for establishing a consensual government.
