CAIRO – 8 December 2020: A new batch carrying 22 Russian train vehicles has arrived Tuesday at Alexandria Port, as part of a 1,300 vehicle-deal; the largest deal in Egypt's historic railway system.
The batch includes 22 ordinary vehicles of third degree with dynamic ventilation, making the number of imported vehicles thusfar 173.
The first batch of the vehicles arrived in July. The experimental trial of the model vehicle was conducted without passengers to ensure its safety.
The cost of the 1,300 vehicles is €1.065 billion that are being funded in the form of a soft loan.
The agreement with the Russian-Hungarian alliance led by Transmachholding Company includes the supply of the 1300 vehicles within 40 months of the date of activating the signed contract.
The agreement includes manufacturing and importing 800 air-conditioned vehicles.
