Egypt’s partnership with France important pillar for stability in Mediterranean, Middle East: Sisi

CAIRO – 7 December 2020: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi meet, Sunday evening with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at the French Foreign Ministry's headquarters, as they discussed number of regional files.

During their talks, Sisi affirmed that Egypt is keen on strengthening its strategic partnership with France, which represents an important pillar for maintaining security and stability in the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi added that President Sisi expressed his aspiration for his talks with the French President Emmanuel Macron which will include various aspects of common interest.

Le Drian welcomed Sisi's visit to Paris and voiced confidence his upcoming talks with French President Emmanuel Macron will boost bilateral relations as France is looking forward to promoting joint cooperation with Egypt in the different fields.

The French foreign minister said his country wants to intensify joint coordination with Egypt regarding Mideast issues.

Radi said that Sisi and Le Drian meeting discussed number of regional files, with a special focus on the latest developments in east Mediterranean, Libya and Syria along with crises in some countries in the region.

President Sisi stressed that full support of the international community is the only settlement to all such crises in order to face any meddling attempts, uprooting terrorism and achieving balance among countries in the region, according to the spokesman.

Sisi added that his country is keen on boosting strategic partnership with France, as a cornerstone of entrenching security and stability in the Mediterranean region and the Middle East.

Radi noted that the two sides tackled recent updates of the Palestinian cause and ways to revive peacemaking.

On Thursday, France issued a statement stating that Macron will welcome Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah al Sisi, Monday to discuss number of the regional crises, especially tensions in the Mediterranean.

According to the statement, Sisi’s visit comes following to Macron’s visit to Cairo in January 2019, and aims to strengthen relations between Paris and Cairo which is ‘the strategic partner for stability in the Middle East.’

Sisi embarked on Sunday to France at an invitation from his French counterpart. The visit comes as part of the two countries' keenness on developing their strategic relations as well as holding talks on means of boosting standing ties in the coming phase.

Sisi and Marcon are expected to discuss a set of issues of common interest as well as coordinating stances regarding regional and international issues.

During his visit to Paris, Sisi will meet with the French premier, a number of ministers and top government officials as well as speakers of the French parliament.

Talks are expected to cover Egypt's vision regarding regional crises especially the Middle East region and eastern the Mediterranean. The two leaders are also expected to probe increasing joint cooperation especially in the investment and trade domains in light of Egypt's efforts to lure foreign investments to mega national projects in the country.

On November 2, Sisi and Macron discussed number of issues of mutual concern, particularly the Libyan turmoil, in a phone call.

Presidential spokesperson said that Sisi affirmed that there should be a vivid differentiation between Islam and terrorist acts that are being committed in the name of the religion.
