France’s Macron to welcome Sisi, Monday

Cairo – 3 December 2020:  France’s Emmanuel Macron will welcome Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah al Sisi, Monday to discuss number of the regional crises, especially tensions in the Mediterranean.

According to a statement issued by the Elysee, Sisi’s visit comes following to Macron’s visit to Cairo in January 2019, and aims to strengthen relations between Paris and Cairo which is ‘the strategic partner for stability in the Middle East.’

The two presidents will meet, Monday at the Elysee Palace to discuss regional crises, especially in Libya and tensions in the eastern Mediterranean.

During the visit, Sisi will be meeting with Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

On November 2, Sisi and Macron discussed number of issues of mutual concern, particularly the Libyan turmoil, in a phone call.

Presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed that there should be a vivid differentiation between Islam and terrorist acts that are being committed in the name of the religion.

He added that “[Islam] has no relation with such acts in all forms. The perpetrators shall not justify their [terrorist] acts in the name of any divine religion.”
