Egypt reports 351 new coronavirus cases with 13 deaths

CAIRO - 23 November 2020: Egypt's Health Ministry said in a Sunday statement that 351 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 113,027.



Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 13 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 6,548.



As many as 98 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 101,881 so far, the spokesman said.

 

Egypt ranks 49th among world countries in terms of recovery rates (93.2 percent), and ranks 141st in the world in terms of total infections per one million people, (1,016 infections per 1 million).
 
 
A new strain of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) is spreading among Egyptians, said Advisor to the Egyptian president for health and prevention affairs Mohamed Awad Tag el-Din on Friday evening, revealing that from 20% to 25% of the infected cases need hospitals.
 
 
In a phone call with "Akher Al-Nahar" talk show on Al-Nahar T.V., Tag el-Din added that the number of infected people is expected to increase due to the cold weather, calling upon people to be vigilant in dealing with the virus. 
 
 
He said it is likely that a person who is infected with the virus and does not show any symptoms could cause many infections to others, stressing the importance of wearing face masks in all public places.
