CAIRO - 11 November 2020: Members of the Libyan House of Representatives announced their rejection of forming an unelected legislative body and the existence of the dialogue committee after the end of its duties, affirming the parliament’s commitment to any government that is formed as long as its work is monitored.

This came in an official statement by dozens of Libyan representatives from the East, West, and South, who commented on the standards adopted by the United Nations at the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Tunisia.

The members of the Libyan House of Representatives affirmed their keenness and interest in following up on the activities of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum which is held in Tunis, and is supervised by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya.

They welcome a peaceful and comprehensive solution to the country's crisis, as they completely exclude the option of war, stressing several criteria and foundations that should form the outcomes of the dialogue.

Among the most important of these criteria is the mechanism by which the participants in the dialogue were selected, and rejecting the selection of figures, who do not represent any popular base or existing legitimate authority. The participants must be selected by the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of the State.

The members of the Libyan House of Representatives emphasized the necessity of the mission's commitment to exercising its powers specified in the decision to establish it from 2009 to 2011, not to override them, and not to override the constitutional declaration, political agreement, constitutional decision and the stipulated powers of the House of Representatives.
