Egypt’s military forces in full readiness to secure 2020 House election

CAIRO – 23 October 2020: Egyptian military forces took necessary preparations for securing the 2020 House of Representatives elections due to kick off on Sunday domestically, providing a safe environment for citizens to cast their votes in the election.
 
 
 
Military forces took also the required precautions, deploying rapid intervention forces and elements of the thunderbolt, parachutes, and military police in anticipation of any possible hostile actions that could affect or disturb the electoral process, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defense on Thursday.
 
 
 
A total of 63 million Egyptians are eligible to cast their votes in the parliament election that started on October 21 for the Egyptian expats, after updating the voters’ database by the National Election Authority (NEA).
 
 
 
The House election will take place in two stages. The first stage, which will be between 21 October and 30 November, will cover 14 governorates; Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assiut, New Valley, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, the Red Sea, Alexandria Beheira and Marsa Matruh.
 
 
 
The second stage, which will take place between 4 November and 14 December, will cover 13 governorates; Cairo, Qalioubiya, Daqahleya, Menoufia, Gharbeya, Kafr El-Sheikh, Sharqeya, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, North Sinai and South Sinai.
 
 
 
A total of 4,006 individual candidates and eight parties’ lists were accepted to run in the parliamentary elections.
 
 
 
Two lists in Cairo and south and center Delta were accepted including: The National Unified List for Egypt, and Call of Egypt electoral alliance (in Arabic Nedaa Masr Coalition). Both lists were also accepted in Northern, center and southern Upper Egypt, and eastern Delta. While in the western Delta sector the National Unified List for Egypt and Sons of Egypt list were accepted.
