CAIRO – 23 October 2020: Egyptian naval forces rescued 57 passengers onboard a Turkish flagged boat in the Mediterranean Sea, 270 km north of Sidi Barrani, announced Spokesperson of the Egyptian Ministry of Defense Tamer El-Refai in a statement on Friday.
 
The boat sent a distress signal at 12:00 pm on Thursday after a sudden technical malfunction occurred in the boat, Refai said
 
Orders have been issued immediately to send Egyptian frigate “Al-Dhafer” to the boat, rescuing 57 passengers on board from different nationalities (Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Egypt), while the boat was dragged and moored to a dock of the July 3 Naval Base Jarjob in Sidi Barrani on Friday morning, Refai continued. 
 
The rescued passengers include 48 men, 6 women, 3 children, Refai added, noting that they have given all necessary medical treatment. In addition to this, legal measures have been taken by all concerned authorities.
