CAIRO – 3 October 2020: Egypt recorded 149 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, upping the total number of infections to 103,466, according to the Ministry of Health's daily briefing on Friday evening.

Ten patients died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the overall death toll to 5,956.

As many as 288 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, bringing the total number of recoveries to 97,143 so far, the spokesman added.

On Thursday, the ministry said that the country’s recovery rate recorded 93.5 percent. Egypt had witnessed a slight increase in the daily tally of coronavirus cases in the past few weeks, reversing a low of 89 on August 22, the lowest daily infection toll since early April. Despite the ministry’s official data, some people got infected and be self-isolated without reporting their infection to the ministry of health.

The government repeatedly urged caution to avoid a second wave of the pandemic, particularly with the advent of autumn.
