Egypt’s FM Shoukry to meet Palestine’s Fatah movement officials, Monday

CAIRO – 28 September 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign affairs Sameh Shoukry expected to meet, Monday with Secretary General of Fatah's Central Committee (FCC), Jibril Rajoub and, Rawhi Fattouh, a senior official of Fatah's Central Committee at the headquarters of the ministry in Cairo.

A delegation from the Fatah movement arrived in Cairo Sunday, to meet with number of the Egyptian officials, as they are expected to meet with another delegation of Hamas, which is also, currently in Cairo.

The meeting comes as part the arrangements of the Palestinian and Palestinian reconciliation file.

Fatah movement spokesman, Hussein Hamayel, said that "Egypt has played a pivotal role for the Palestinian cause, and it has blessed the Palestinian moves towards reconciliation since its inception."

Egypt has always been prioritizing the Palestinian file in all its foreign discussions and communications. Several initiatives have been led by Egypt to reach a reconciliation and cease-fires between the Palestinian and Israeli parties.

Several medical convoys have been sent by Egypt to Palestine permanently, including the latest aid trucks sent i May to face the effects and consequences of the Coronavirus.

In statements, Palestine's ambassador to Egypt Diab al-Louh thanked President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Egyptian people for sending tens of tons of medical aid and disinfectants to Palestine to confront the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The ambassador said that this step comes as an affirmation of the distinguished relations between the two countries as well as Egypt's standing with the Palestinian people in all adversity.

Last June, During a phone call with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi; Shoukry affirmed the importance of continuing to push ahead with efforts aimed at resuming the peace process within the framework of the principle of the two-state solution, and via the international community's solidarity for encouraging action in order to create the conducive environment for this end, and setting prospects towards the just and comprehensive settlement; while stressing rejection of any unilateral Israeli measures to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territories as this constitutes a violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, and due to its dire consequences for any hope of reaching the desired peace, stability and security in the region.
