FM Shoukry affirms Egypt support for Lebanon’s security, stability

CAIRO – 20 September 2020: Egypt’s Minster Sameh Shoukry discussed with UN envnoy to Lebanon Jan Kubis the latest developments regarding the Lebanon scene and ways for cooperation and support between the two countries.

During the Shoukry reiterated Egypt’s support for Lebanon’s security and stability. He added that Egypt will continue to provide all help to Beirut in order to overcome the current crisis.

Shoukry voiced confidence in the ability of the Lebanese people to stand up to challenges that resulted from the Beirut port blast in August.

The two officials meeting took up the latest developments in Lebanon and how to continue to offer support for the government there, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez.

Shoukry posted the UN envoy on the outcome of his latest visit to Beirut, noting that he stressed the need to put Lebanon’s national interests first in order to achieve aspirations of the Lebanese people.

The top diplomat called for quickly forming a government in line with the constitution, believing this should contribute to restoring stability to Lebanon.

UN envoy Kubis also reviewed his vision regarding the latest developments in Lebanon and urged intensified action to meet needs of the Lebanese people.

He praised Egypt’s attempts to maintain stability in Lebanon and the region.

Hopefully, coordination and consultation would continue with Cairo in the coming stage, Kubis said.
