CAIRO – 5 September 2020: The Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit condemned Saturday Kosovo and Serbia’s opening of embassies in occupied Jerusalem.

The Secretary-General said that the action is an invalid procedure that violates international law and the United Nations Security Council’s decision that strictly prohibits states from opening embassies in Jerusalem as it has been occupied since 1967.

Aboul Gheit mentioned in a press statement UN’s 478 resolution that bans the existence of any diplomatic mission in Jerusalem.

The Arab League said that Jerusalem is part of the negotiations ran by the International society to realize peace between Israel and Palestine, therefore, some state countries’ opening of embassies in the city is considered as an illegal action that curbs peace efforts.
