CAIRO – 16 August 2020:  Head of Turkey’s main opposition party, Republican People's Party (CHP), Kemal Kilicdaroglu, slammed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s foreign policy.

“You [Erdogan] are disrupting the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ... and After you had declared our old friend Egypt as ‘our enemy’, you come and throw the charges against the CHP? History has not recorded such rude behavior before,” he said on his official Twitter account on Saturday.

During the opening ceremony of the Turkish AK Party Rize Provincial Organization, Erdogan accused the CHP of pursuing the interests of other countries, saying: “The CHP speaks for the Greek media,” reported the Zaman Arabic.

Late July, Kilicdaroglu was quoted by Al-Arabiya that Turkey is experiencing a terrible political crisis due to Erdogan's foreign policies as well as poor economic conditions as the country faces huge debts.

Protesting against a newly-signed agreement on the demarcation of maritime borders in the EEZ area between Egypt and Greece, Erdoğan announced on August 8 that his country cancelled talks with Greece over Mediterranean gas.

On August 6, 2020, Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, signed an agreement on the demarcation of maritime borders between Egypt and Greece. In a press conference between both ministers, Shoukry affirmed that the new agreement provides new cooperation with Greece.
