CAIRO - 9 August 2020: The special electoral committee at the Egyptian Embassy premises in Kuwait's Hawalli governorate started to receive polling cards sent by Egyptian expats via express mail to participate in the Egyptian Senate elections, set for Aug 9-10.

Egyptian Ambassador in Kuwait Tareq el Koni checked on the availability of sanitizers in the committee before its starts operation.

The committee members also sanitized the envelopes of the poll cards before opening them as part of the precautionary measures taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Ambassador Koni said Egyptian expats are allowed to send their voting cards from all over the country till Aug 12.

He urged all Egyptians in Kuwait to participate in the elections to choose the members of the new parliamentary house.

In 8 August, Egyptian expatriates in New Zealand started casting their votes via mail in Senate election scheduled for two days. The Egyptian embassy in New Zealand was the first to open for the voters, given an 11 hour time difference with Cairo.

The voters are not allowed to go to the embassies in the countries where they live to cast their ballots. The decision has taken into consideration the restrictions and precautionary measures taken in most countries in light of the coronavirus pandemic, which would hinder the Egyptian voters’ attendance at the embassies’ premises.

Consulates and embassies in 124 countries across the world are to officially open their doors Friday at 9am local time in each country.

The National Election Authority, which is in charge of supervising the electoral process in Egypt, has excluded expats in Libya, Syria, Yemen, and Somalia from voting in the August Senate elections, due to unstable conditions of these states.
