CAIRO -28 July 2020: After the social media users circulated a video showingthe crime of assaulting an Egyptian working as a teller in Kuwait's Sabah Al-Ahmad Association by a Kuwaiti citizen, et reviews the rights of Egyptian workers in Kuwait according to Kuwaiti law.

Kuwaiti Labor Law sets the rules of justice based on trust between workers and employers. The Kuwaiti Labor Law's approach is powerful in reconciling the rights and obligations of both parties at work.
 
The law determines the competent authority when a dispute arises between the worker and the employer.It is required by law to precede the suit of the worker or his beneficiaries, to request the competent labor department to resolve the dispute between him and the employer.If the dispute cannot be resolved amicably, the Labor Department refers the dispute to the court.
 
A pregnant working woman is entitled to a paid vacation that is not deducted from herbasic vacation for a period of 70 days.
 
If the employment contract is for an indefinite period, anyparty may terminate it after notifying the other party.
 
For workers recruited with a monthly wage, the other party must be notified of the contract expiration date at least three months before the due date.For other workers, if the employeris not obligated to end the contract, they must pay a fine equal to the worker’s wages for the period of employment.
 
The employer may excuse the worker from work during the notification period,calculating the continuous working period of the worker until the end of the notificationperiod.
 
A worker has the right to a paid weekly vacation, and may work on the day of the weekly rest to get at least 50 percentof his wageadded to his original wage, and becompensated forthe day of his rest with another day of rest.
 
A worker is entitled to obtain compensation for a work injury or occupational disease according to the decision issued by the Labor Minister.A worker also has the right to receive cash in exchange for his un used annual vacation days if his contract ends.
 
Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates  Affairs Nabila Makramrecently contacted Consul General of Egypt in KuwaitHishamAsranto follow up on the position of the Egyptian youth who was assaulted by a citizen while doing his job.
 
Makram emphasized her appreciation of the consul's and the Kuwaiti authorities' speedy response to the problem.
 
During the call, Ambassador Asran stressed that the incident is an individual case and comes in contradiction with the strength of the bilateral relations between the two peoples and the stability of hundreds of thousands of Egyptian workers in Kuwait.
 
The Consul General also explained that the aggressor was arrested, the case was registered as a felony, and the case is being followed up.
 
He pointed out that the competent authorities in Kuwait contacted the young Egyptian man,Walid, who was beaten, and the Sabah Al-Ahmad Association led by Nasser Dhar Al-Otaibi announced its solidarity with him.
 

The Egyptian laborers in Kuwait occupied the second rank in the number of foreign workers with 10,000 workers, constituting 20.8 percent of the total expatriate labor force. Egypt comes after India, whose nationals form 917,000 Indian workers, according to a report by Al Shall, Financial and Economic Consulting company in April 2020.

 

In April, an Egyptian expatriate was stabbed to death in Kuwait, reported Kuwaiti Al-Rai newspaper.

 

"A pedestrian found the dead body of the Egyptian national in an under-construction house in the city of Dasma," the newspaper said, adding that the police launched an investigation and the dead body was sent to the forensic department.

 

Also, in August 2018, an Egyptian citizen lost his life during a fight with an Asian expat, who stabbed the former at Kuwait’s Bnied Al-Gar, according to eyewitnesses, Kuwaiti Al-Rai media reported.

 

According to Al-Rai, the 30-year old Egyptian expat died from a fatal stab to the heart.

 

Erem News reported on Monday that the Kuwaiti authorities managed to arrest two people accused of stabbing an Arab citizen to the heart in Bnied Al-Gar before they could flee the country.

 

An Egyptian was previously shot dead at Kuwait’s Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh in January 2013. Also, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported in April, 2018 that an Egyptian person working at a weaponry store was injured when a Kuwaiti citizen was checking a shooting gun.
