Egypt records 928 new Covid-19 infections, 53 deaths

CAIRO16 July 2020: Egypt recorded Thursday, 928 new coronavirus cases, upping the total number of infections to 85,771.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said that 53 patients died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the overall death toll to 4,120.

As many as 556 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, bringing the total number of recoveries to 26,691so far, the spokesman added.

Head of the COVID-19 Treatment Committee Hossam Hosny attributed, Monday, the decline of daily infections below 1,000 to the protective measures and the weakening of the virus.

The official highlighted that deaths account for 4.7 percent of cases, which is below the global figure standing at 5 percent.

The Egyptian Drug Authority announced signing a deal with AstraZeneca to supply the country with the Oxford University's vaccine for COVID-19 without disclosing the number of doses or the delivery date.
