CAIRO - 15 July 2020: Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit pointed out that the Arab League is rejecting and condemning all forms of interference in Libya.

"Libya remains an important Arab country and the Arab League can't accept that Libya would be a theater for foreign military interference," he said.

Abul Gheit stressed that there is an absolute Arab commitment to preserving Libya's independence and territorial integrity.

The Supreme Council of Sheikhs and Lords of Libya supported Tuesday the Libyan Parliament’s calling for an Egyptian military intervention in Libya to end the Turkish illegal existence.

In its statement, the Supreme Council of Sheikhs highlighted the strong relationship between the Libyan and Egyptian peoples, and asserted that the danger that affects Libya will certainly affect Egypt and threaten its western borders.

"Turkey wants to return the Ottoman occupation to Libya... Ankara wants to seize the wealth of Libya and the capabilities of its people," Abul Gheit added.

"Turkey may attack Sirte and Al-Jafra, especially following the recent visit of the Turkish defense minister... Every Libyan must follow the correct path to restore stability to the country," he said.

Oil-rich Libya has been mired in chaos since the ouster and killing of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. It now has two rival authorities and a multitude of militias vying for control of the country.

The country’s internationally recognized government is based in Tripoli, while KhalifaHaftar, the commander of the Libyan National Army, is supported by a parallel administration based in the east.
