CAIRO – 14 July 2020: The Court of Cassation upheld a ruling declaring former Minister of Interior Habib al-Adly not guilty in the lawsuit where he was convicted of embezzlement and facilitating embezzlement.

The former minister and eight others were charged of embezzling LE2,388,590,599. They were referred by the Public Prosecution to the Criminal Court of Giza that cleared in May 2019 all defendants, except former Head of the Central Administration of Accounting and Budget Nabil Khalaf.

Khalaf was sentenced to three years in prison, and to pay back LE62.12 million. He deceased a few months after he had turned himself in to the Court of Cassation in January.
