Egypt’s COVID-19 daily briefing: 981 new cases, 85 deaths

CAIRO – 10 July 2020: Egypt recorded, Friday 981 new coronavirus cases, upping the total number of infections to 80,235.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said in his daily briefing that 85 patients died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the overall death toll to 3,702.

As many as 521 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, bringing the total number of recoveries to 23.274 so far, the spokesman added.

On Thursday, Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism said that tourists of different nationalities returned back home after spending wonderful trips to South Sinai and Red Sea Governorates without a single Case of infection of COVID-19 along the duration of their stay.

It was added that Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Swiss tourists who came to the South Sinai and Red Sea Governorates have begun to return to their home countries after spending a warm and sunny week on Egypt’s beautiful beaches.

Tourists praised the preventive measures, hygiene safety regulations that were put in place in Sharm al-Sheikh’s and Hurghada’s hotels, and which did not in any way negatively affect the enjoyment of their stay or keep them from these cities’ beautiful sites. They also commended everyone for the regulations that Egypt sent to other countries through diplomatic missions, major tour operators, and renowned tourism companies.

Egypt’s Cabinet, on Friday, denied rumors claiming that kawasaki disease cases were reported among children in Egypt, saying such reports are “groundless.”

The cabinet said in a statement that the Egyptian Ministry of Health has an effective epidemiological surveillance program.
