CAIRO - 8 June 2020: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that the Government of National Accord does not want to reach a political solution to the Libyan crisis, and insists on a military solution, according to Al-Arabiya.

The Russian foreign minister had earlier confirmed that the Libyan National Army was ready to sign an agreement, assuring a ceasefire within the Libyan nation.

Lavrov's statements revealed that the GNA, which relies on terrorist militias and Turkish support, does not wish to inject blood into the Libyan people.

Interfax news agency reported earlier that Russia and Turkey are working on an immediate ceasefire agreement for the conflict in Libya.

Lavrov said the Libyan National Army (LNA), which Russia backs, is ready to sign a ceasefire document and hopes that Turkey will manage to convince the country’s internationally recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) to do the same.

Libya has been mired in chaos since the2011 NATO-backed uprising that killed longtime dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Turkey is implementing a military deployment at Libya to shore up the UN-backed government. Ankara continues to escalate its involvement in the Libyan conflict by supporting the Government of National Accord (GNA), despite Turkey participating and agreeing to the outcomesof the Berlin Conference held in January 2020, where foreign states active in Libya agreed to uphold the UN arms embargo.

Meanwhile, Commander of the National Army, Field Marshal KhalifaHaftar, is backed by Egypt, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates.
