CAIRO – 3 July 2020: Marking the seventh anniversary of July 3rd, 2013; Social media users tweeted using hashtag “Egyptians stand with you Sisi” remembering rallying in the streets, demanding the armed forces to intervene against former pro-Muslim brotherhood president Mohamed Morsy.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, who was Egypt’s Defence Minister then, issued a statement giving the government only 48 hours; as he finally managed to overthrow the Brotherhood’s rule.
In his statement, Sisi stressed that the intervention comes as a result of the armed forces patriotic role, not out of any political goals or motives.
“A historic day in the life of Egyptians that changed the path and saved our homeland from destruction, chaos and division.” Noura Amer tweeted.
Fathi Ali, also tweeted to mark the day saying: “Such great nation has shaped the planet history, exploring the urbanization cannot be a prisoner of backwardness and barbarism of Muslim brotherhood”
In another tweet, Ali posted number of pictures for Muslim Brotherhood demonstrations in which the used violence, and wrote: “imagine, such thugs, looters are the supporters of Muslim brotherhood.”
Mo’men joing the hashtag addressing Sisi in his tweet, saying: “All Egyptians who voted for you, have faith in you Sisi.”
The hashtag trended on twitter since the beginning of the day in a sociomedical celebration of the anniversary.
On Tuesday, [the anniversary of June 30 revolution that toppled the regime of the Muslim Brotherhood] Sisi tweeted saying: "History will stand still at the glorious June 30 Revolution, which will remain vivid in the memory of all generations for establishing the values of pride, dignity, patriotism, and conservation of the genuine Egyptian identity from hijack,"
He added: "On the 7th anniversary of our glorious revolution, I assert that we're a nation that made history, and is still making it in all fields inspiring humanity with what it's achieving,"
"I renew the oath to go forward with our honorable battle of work, building, and facing internal and external challenges with the same willpower and determination. May God protect Egypt and its people," Sisi concluded.
Around 33 million protesters broke into the streets across the country on June 30, 2013 one year after the election of late President Mohamed Morsi, who was a member of the Supreme Guide Bureau of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.
On July 3, 2013, Morsi and his government were overthrown, and the constitution passed in 2012 was suspended. The Muslim Brotherhood president was subject to trial in different cases, including espionage for Qatar, when he got a heart attack on June 17, 2019 after the conclusion of a court session.
Morsi had been handed a 20-year prison sentence over killing and torturing protesters who opposed him in December 2012. That is because he issued a constitutional declaration in late November 2012 that granted him unlimited powers and the power to legislate without judicial oversight or review of his acts.
