CAIRO – 1 July 2020: Death toll among doctors due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has reached 108 doctors according to Egyptian Medical Syndicate member Ibrahim al-Zayat.

He added in statements that the number of infections among doctors with the coronavirus, exceeded 3.000, while the number of deaths reached 108 doctors, indicating that the death rate between medical teams ranges between 5 to 7 percent.

Zayat affirmed that the Syndicate communicates with the doctors’ families before announcing any new raise in the infections numbers in order to prevent spreading any inaccurate information or details.

Egypt recorded, Tuesday, 1557 new coronavirus cases, upping the total number of confirmed cases to 68311.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 81 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 2953.

As many as 509 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 18460 so far, the spokesman said.

The Egyptian Drug Authority announced signing a deal with AstraZeneca to supply the country with the Oxford University's vaccine for COVID-19 without disclosing the number of doses or the delivery date.
