CAIRO – 8 June 2020: Deputy Minister of Health Tariq Tawfiq said that it is expected that the elderly people aged 65 or above will represent more than 15 percent of Egypt’s population by the year 2100.

“This undoubtedly requires more health, social and financial care,” Tawfiq added.

He pointed out that this segment reached 5.5 million or 5.4 percent of the population during 2020 and the number is expected to rise to 7.9 million or 6.6 percent of the population in 2030, and reach 11 million or 7.9 percent by 2040 and 15.9 million by 2050, representing 10.2 percent of the population.

It is also expected that this segment will reach 22.7 million in 2070, representing 12.3 percent of the population, and 33 million or 15.3 percent of the population in the year 2100.
