CAIRO – 7 June 2020: The Israeli government has finally approved the appointment of Amira Oron as its first female ambassador to Cairo, according to Israeli media on Sunday.

“Amira is a seasoned, professional diplomat who has a respectable position in the diplomatic corps. It is certain she will push bilateral relations of the state of Israel and Egypt forward to accomplish great achievements,” Maariv quoted Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi said.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry named Oron as the new ambassador in October 2018, but the position was left unoccupied for a year as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to appoint another politician.

Fluent in Arabic, Oron was once the former deputy director of the media department in the Arab world at the her country’s embassy in Cairo, and was the ambassador to Turkey for two years, according to The Jerusalem Post.
