CAIRO – 12 May 2020: Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) ambassador Alaa Youssef said Tuesday that Egypt has received the presidency of the African Group.

The African Group one of UN’s five regional groups that includes 54 Member States from the African Continent and is meant to support Africa’s interests in the UN and the other international bodies located in Geneva.

Youssef asserted his country’s support for all the efforts exerted by the African Union (AU) to limit the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Youssef urged the member states of the African Group to boost its support during the coming period to the activities carried out by all the African Nations to prevent the consequences of the current infectious virus.

The Egyptian diplomat urged the member states to prioritize certain issues during talks with the International organizations such as wider access to medical supplies, external debt relief, and providing more support for migrants, refugees, and the internally displaced individuals.
