CAIRO – 20 April 2020: Spokesperson of the Ministry of Endowments Ahmed al-Qady was relieved of his duties on Monday after he made a false statement about protective measures taken against COVID-19 spread.

In a TV interview over the phone on Sunday, Qady stated that the ministry "will examine" the possibility of opening mosques for Tarawih prayers in Ramadan whereas worshippers would not be allowed to enter while Imams will lead the prayers remotely in the speakers.

Later, the ministry negated such statement affirming that the suspension of all kind of prayers at mosques will continue.

The holy month of Ramadan will start on April 24 whereas Muslims have to eat between sunset and sunrise, and abstain from eating and drinking in the rest of the day.
