CAIRO – 15 April 2020: Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Neveen Gamea toured Wednesday three factories for food products, medical supplies and clothes in El-Obour Industrial City to affirm that all workers and administrations are abiding by the precautionary measures amid the coronavirus outbreak.

During her tour, Gamea said that the industrial sector is committed to implementing all precautionary measures to confront the novel virus in order to ensure the continuation of the production process and maintain the safety of workers inside factories.

She noted that a especial committee has been formed by the ministry to conduct inspection campaigns, and to follow up on the factories' implementation of the precautionary procedures to ensure that no factory stops production.

Gamea added that the government is currently implementing a comprehensive plan to support the industrial sector in facing the repercussions of the outbreak of the virus, noting that the government's efforts include a number of measures and procedures to ensure the continuity of the production process without compromising the health and safety of workers.

The minister pointed out that the government had issued a number of decisions to support the industrial sector during the current stage, which included allowing factories to operate during the curfew period, and excluding affiliated trucks from the curfew to transfer the goods, especially since most of these trucks operate in the evening because they are linked to ports.
On April 14, Gamea joined Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli in a tour that included Cairo Pack Egypt factory for packaging food and beverages in 6th of October City and General Motors Factory in Egypt.

During the Cairo Pack factory tour, Madbouli was keen on standing on the work flow at the factory and the measures taken to face the novel coronavirus. Madbouli thanked the factory workers, saying that Egyptian laborers shoulder the responsibility of production during this critical period.

During the General Motors visit, Madbouli indicated that the visit comes within the framework of following up on the implementation of the precautionary and preventive measures taken by the state to confront the emerging coronavirus and limit its spread.

He emphasized the importance to protect the workers in all locations and factories, and to continue production to achieve economic growth, pointing out that the state is keen on supporting the industry in this critical stage.

Madbouli noted that the decision to exclude factory workers from curfew will continue in order to keep the process of production and industrialization going.
