World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus gestures during a press briefing on evolution of new coronavirus epidemic on January 29, 2020 in Geneva.

CAIRO, April 7 (MENA) - World Health Organization Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Richard Bernan on Tuesday said that there is no any evidence so far that coronavirus could be transmitted through air.

The only available evidence is that it could be transmitted via droplets, he added at a press conference.

He underlined the importance of quarantining any suspected case at a very early stage after catching the virus.

He also confirmed that severe cases should not be quarantined with mild cases. He also underlined the necessity of applying all precautionary measures including social distancing and banning gatherings.

Many countries in the region including Egypt, Pakistan and Iran are applying these measures, he added.
