CAIRO, Jan 25 (MENA) - Health Minister Hala Zayed on Saturday checked on the preventive safety measures taken by the medical team of the Quarantine Department at Cairo International Airport in the aftermath of the World Health Organization's warnings of a new coronavirus outbreak in China that is spreading rapidly around the world.

Accompanied by Alaa Eid, the head of the preventive medicine sector at the Health Ministry, Zayed hailed the medical team's efforts in implementing a contingency plan and preventing the entry of the virus into the country, Khaled Megahed, the ministry's spokesman said.

The minister pointed out that the plan has many pillars including having a maximum state of high alert at all the quarantine departments at the country's ports and airports.

She noted that each traveler, coming from China or any country confirming to be infected with the deadly pneumonia-causing illness would hold a health monitoring card, adding that the general administration of quarantine and health directorates at his place of residence in any part of Egypt will monitor him for 14 days from the date of arrival.

Egypt is one of the first countries which took preventive measures after the WHO's warnings, the minister affirmed, stating that all travelers arriving from areas where confirmed cases of the disease have been reported will be screened and any suspected cases will be immediately isolated.
