CAIRO - 11 January 2020: “Salam City” eastern Port Said is one of four cities that will be constructed on the shores of North Sinai, and is expected to house the largest desalination plant in Egypt and Africa.

Salam City will also be the first million city in Sinai as it is planned to be a business hub encompassing a port, yacht harbor, hotels, resorts, business park, airport, fashion city, and a neighborhood for universities and research centers.

In November, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated a number of national projects in Port Said and North Sinai governorates.

The projects include July 3 tunnels in Port Said, which are among major national projects as they link south Port Said and Sinai, besides connecting the eastern and western shores of canal cities together facilitating trade. President Sisi also inaugurated the small and medium-scale industrial complexes in El-Raswa, south of Port Said governorate, via the video conference.

Sczone has been developed to receive Triple E-class container ships, as the number of those crossing the port rose from 83 ships last year to 98 ships by October. The number was expected to hit 120 ships by the end of 2019, indicating a 45 percent increase in the number of crossing ships.
