CAIRO – 6 January 2019: The authorities have tightened the security measures around worship places ahead of Christmas celebrations, and police forces have been deployed on all roads leading to worship places.

Egypt’s Ministry of Interior Affairs assured in a Monday statement exerting all efforts to enable Egyptians to enjoy Christmas. The ministry also called upon all citizens to adhere to security instructions and cooperate with the police officers.

Since the New Year's celebrations, all security directorates have applied extensive security measures on streets, squares, and at worship places and vital facilities to maintain security and deal immediately and decisively with anything that could disturb public peace.

The security plans also included installing security checkpoints; monitoring points around streets and roads; women police services to participate in inspection procedures, besides police dogs to inspect and comb the areas and fields.

Electronic gates were installed outside churches to conduct inspections before entrance.
