YEREVAN, Dec 14 (MENA) - President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian thanked the US Senate for adopting a resolution recognizing the Ottoman Empire's killings of Armenians in the early 20th century as a genocide, the Armenian news agency reported.

Sarkissian sent a message to the US Senate’s Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the US Senate’s Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senators Rob Menendez and Ted Cruz for the unanimous adoption of the Armenian Genocide resolution.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to you and the Members of the US Senate for the unanimous adoption of the resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, a powerful step towards the prevention of future crimes and crimes against humanity. The Senate’s decision is a significant step to reaffirm the fact that truth, justice and humanity remain the pillars and values of fundamental human rights," the president said in his message.

"I am certain that we will continue to enhance the strategic dialogue between Armenia and the United States, intensify bilateral relations and strengthen our partnership and cooperation in all possible sectors."
