Developed infrastructure essential for poverty eradication: Egypt

CAIRO - 22 October 2019: "Economic growth and Poverty eradication cannot be achieved without having a good infrastructure," said Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Atti at the second edition of Cairo Water Week 2019 (CWW) on Monday.

The minister’s comments came at the Inter-Ministerial Committee Meeting of the Presidential Championing Infrastructure Initiative at the (PICI – IMC) on the sidelines of the 5-day forum.

Abdel Atti discussed the projects implemented by the Presidential Championing Infrastructure Initiative, which is sponsored by the African countries. The projects cover four infrastructure sectors (transport, energy, ICT and trans-boundary water).

The 2019 round of the CWW comes under the theme “Responding to Water Scarcity”.

The forum’s sub-sessions tackle themes of Research and Innovation in facing water scarcity; non-conventional water resource use; Cooperation in Water Sector; and Climate Change Impacts, Mitigation, and Adaptation.

The first edition of the CWW convened in October 2018 under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisito increase public awareness of water rationalization for sustainable development amid a state of water shortage.
