CAIRO- 3 October 2019: The Administrative Control Authority (ACA) has arrested two officials at a major construction company over accepting a bribe estimated at EGP 800 million from five contractors, in return for facilitating the accreditation of payment certificates, paying financial dues and granting additional work for companies run by the five.

The ACA also nabbed two lawyers working for a private food company for paying large sums as a bribe to an auditor at the social insurance fund, in return for turning a blind eye to the company's irregularities, including the falsification of insurance certificates for the company workers.

In this regard, the authority apprehended a deputy head of a gas company over taking a bribe of EGP 250,000 from officials at a private transport company, in return for assigning the transport of gas supplies to the company.

The authority arrested chairman of the central department for cooperation affairs at the General Authority for Housing and Construction Cooperatives for accepting a bribe from the board chairman of one of building and housing associations in the Red Sea Governorate, in exchange for allocating plots of land to the association.

The chairman of Cairo's environmental monitoring unit was arrested over accepting a bribe from the owner of a cleaning company in Nasr City district, in exchange for renewing the work permits, the ACA said.
