CAIRO – 1 October 2019: Egypt’s first lady Intissar al-Sisi marked the International Day for Older Persons in a Facebook post on her official page, calling on Egyptians to pay tribute to their fathers and mothers.

“We have to pay tribute to our fathers and mothers, and all previous generations, to whom we owe a great thanks to what they have done for the advancement of this society, and the work they have done to build it properly, thanks to them all,” she wrote.

The day was observed for the first time on October 1, 1991, one year after the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons, to appreciate the contributions that the older people make to society.
