Govt denies rumors on FGM operations in govt hospitals

CAIRO - 22 August 2019: The cabinet's media center denied on Thursday rumors circulated recently on performing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) operation at government hospitals.

In a fact-finding report, the center said that the Health Ministry totally denied the news, adding that it is void of truth.

The ministry asserted that the female genital mutilation is a crime whose perpetrator gets from 5 to 7 years in prison.

The ministry said that the rates of the female genital mutilation decreased in Egypt, pointing out to the efforts its exerts to eradicate this phenomenon in Egypt.
