CAIRO – 30 July 2019: In the very first minutes of the launch of the seventh edition of the National Youth Conference at the New Administrative Capital, the broadcaster Shaimaa el-Kordy made a stunning performance presenting the opening ceremony of the forum that kicked off Tuesday.

In a tactful manner and remarkable decorum, hijab-wearing Kordy captured the attention of the audience and followers of the forum. The two-day conference was inaugurated Tuesday by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, and is attended by more than 1,500 Egyptian youths from different society levels.

ON TV channel presenter, Kordy, made her first TV appearance in 2013 on radio; she gained audience admire for her good literary Arabic, and correct pronunciation.

There has been a decades-long ban on veiled female news presenters to go on air on Egyptian state television; it was lifted following the 25 January Revolution. Fatma Nabil became the first woman to present news wearing a hijab in 2012. Few female broadcasters went on air before that time, but used to present religious-content TV programs.

Before her graduation in the Faculty of Mass Communication in 2013, Kordy received training at the Iraqi TV Channel El-Hadath. She was then an intern with El-Diaa TV Channel. She then joined Dream TV Channel for several months. Kordy is currently working with ON TV channel, and she was chosen for her talent and experience to present the opening ceremony of the 7th National Youth Conference.

President Abdel Fatah al Sisi announced Tuesday inaugurating the 7th edition of the National Youth Conference at the New Administrative Capital (NAC). Nearly 1,500 youth participants from all 27 governorates attended at the conference. The participants will represent university students, political parties, the Presidential Leadership Program (PLP), along with other outstanding youth in different fields, and youth who registered online.

Following the opening session, two Egyptian State Model sessions will be held. On the second and last day, the African Presidential Leadership Program (APLP) will celebrate the graduation of the first African youth class encompassing citizens from 29 African states.
